A very successful inaugural Australasian Mobile Libraries Network (AMLN) Conference was held in Wagga Wagga on 23-25 August 2013.
Hosted by Riverina Regional Library if attracted delegates from New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, South Australia and New Zealand.
Speakers from Norway, New Zealand and various areas of Australia provided the informative and entertaining content for the conference. Delegates were welcomed by representatives of Wagga Wagga City Council and Councillor Graham Smith who is Chair of Public Libraries New South Wales the auspicing body the Australasian Mobile Library Network (AMLN)
One major outcome of the Conference were the formation of the AMLN executive with two representatives from each of NSW, QLD, VIC, SA, and NZ. This body will be charged with guiding the future direction of the organisation. PLNSW will provide the administration support.
The Saturday evening Conference Dinner saw the successful nominees for The Mobile Library Operator of the Year - David Quinlivan Award and the inaugural Keith Ridout Award announced.
Margaret Ross from Riverina Regional Library and Peter Maher from Dubbo – TAFE Western were both taken by surprise when receiving their respective awards. Peter and Margaret are members of the Mongrel’s Club – a unique group of people who support their colleagues in the field.
The next AMLN conference will be held in Townsville in 2014.
