Paula Pfoeffer from Canterbury Library was announced as the 2013 Colin Mills Scholarship awardee at the NSW Public Library Associations SWITCH Conference dinner on 25 November.
The Colin Mills Scholarship is awarded biennially in memory of Colin Mills, PSM. Colin worked at Narrabri, Corowa and Dubbo Councils before being appointed Shire Clerk of Parkes Shire Council in 1985. While at Parkes, he was elected Secretary in 1989 and 1990 of the NSW Country Mayors Association and was appointed by the then Minister for Arts, the Hon Peter Collins as a member of the Library Council of NSW.
Paula has been awarded an amount of $8,000 to undertake a research project on her chosen project Family Place Libraries: creating learning spaces for families. This project will focus on early childhood information, parent and carer education, early literacy, socialisation and family support. The service model proposed in Paula’s submission reaches out to new and non-traditional library patrons, builds partnerships with community agencies and develops new programs and services that focus on early literacy and family support.
Paula will present the findings of her research at the 2015 NSW Public Library Associations Conference.
